Over the past few years, there hasn’t been much discussion about Evernote, which has led to a series of blog posts declaring that “Evernote is dead. If you’re using Microsoft Office, you have access to Onenote.Microsoft OneNote lets you create simple or complex notes from scratch, organize them into searchable, browsable notebooks, and sync them across a variety of platforms, including Windows PCs, Macs, iPads, and iPhones, Android devices, and the web.
If you use Microsoft and a PC, you may prefer OneNote, but Evernote’s maturity in the note-taking space makes it a better choice for web clips.
Evernote or Apple Notes
Winner: Impression Notes
I’ve recently been using Apple Notes (it’s free, after all) for a couple months now. While it’s okay for basic notes, it’s definitely not that great for shared notes.
Evernote, even the free version, beats Apple Notes for sharing.
Another downside to Apple Notes is that it doesn’t work across platforms.
Evernote has a slight advantage when it comes to searching for notes, as it also allows you to search in image text.
Evernote or Google Keep
Winner: Impression Notes
I just want to say that I never “got” Google Keep. my entire business runs on Google Workspace, so when Google Keep launched in 2013, I was eager to try it out.
Unfortunately, I found the user interface clunky and difficult to use. I don’t understand how “search” works – which is disappointing since it’s a Google product.
One of the big draws of Google Keep is its connection to reminders – so if that’s how you use Google Keep, you’ll love this.
But when it comes to notes, web clips and sharing, Evernote is the winner here.
Evernote and Zoho notebooks
Winner: Impression Notes
I’ve been a fan of Zoho One for the past few years. After all, who doesn’t love having a whole business operating system for $30 per user per month?
Zoho Notebook is included with Zoho One. So when I signed up for Zoho One, I exported all my Evernote notebooks to Notebook.
Of all the options I’ve mentioned here, Zoho Notebook is the closest replacement for Evernote. It works across platforms and devices and syncs easily. The interface is colorful (like Google Keep), but the UI is slightly off. On one hand it’s easy, but on the other hand it’s not.
For this reason, I give Evernote the edge.
